Proposition 215 Compassionate Use of Medical Marijuana Act
Passed as a statutory initiative by California voters in November 1996, Proposition 215 was the first effective medical marijuana law in the nation. The CUA allows a patient and their primary caregiver to cultivate and possess any amount deemed reasonable.
Health and Safety Code § 11362.5.
(a) This section shall be known and may be cited as the Compassionate Use Act of 1996.
